We built Adaptcourse because fixed-pace curricula fail most students
Every question a student answers contains information about what they know and what they need next. Most curricula discard that information entirely and move the whole class forward on schedule.
Priya Sharma spent four years in instructional design, then moved into curriculum sequencing at a large online learning company. The pattern she kept seeing: students fell behind on one unit's prerequisite knowledge and arrived at the next unit without it. Teachers knew who was struggling but had no way to route 30 students down 30 different remediation paths in real time. The fix was always the same: teach to the middle and hope.
In 2024, she started building Adaptcourse from Raleigh, NC. The specific question: could a content graph and a response classifier replicate the routing logic that makes 1:1 tutoring effective, at the cost and complexity level that a K-12 district or online course provider could actually adopt? After a year of building and running pilots, yes.

She spent that time watching fixed-pace content fail students at scale, and got specific about the mechanism: when a student's prerequisite gap goes undetected until test day, the remediation window has closed.
She founded Adaptcourse in Raleigh in 2024. She leads product direction, district and platform customer conversations, and the pedagogical logic behind the sequencing engine. She is the person who picks up the phone when you call.
Kai Ren
Kai has eight years of engineering in edtech, most recently building content graph infrastructure for an online course platform. He joined Adaptcourse to build the architecture the sequencing engine runs on: the content graph data model, the response classifier, and the LTI 1.3 and REST API integration layer.
He focuses on making the engine fast enough to route in real time and reliable enough to handle the data inconsistencies that come with real classroom roster imports: malformed Clever syncs, mid-semester section transfers, and content graph edits that arrive while students are mid-session.
Every student deserves a teacher who knows exactly where they are.
That is the operational belief we build against. A teacher with 30 students and 50 minutes cannot hold 30 different knowledge maps in their head. Adaptcourse holds them, surfaces what is relevant, and routes each student to the next thing they actually need.
